I received a BS in Biology from Providence College and a PhD in Biochemistry from the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. My doctoral work uncovered two novel NAD+ metabolites and the genes and enzymes that produce them. I also showed that this metabolic pathway contributes to health and longevity of eukaryotic cells. My work culminated in peer-reviewed publications in the journals Cell, PLOS Biology, PLOS One, the Journal of Biological Chemistry, and BMC Chemical Biology. I also authored several invited publications, including chapters in the Elsevier Encyclopedia of Biological Chemistry and the Annual Reviews of Nutrition.

As a post-doctoral fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Michael Welsh, an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, I developed a porcine model of cystic fibrosis with inducible CFTR. This new pig model is being used to direct and validate approaches to gene therapy and the use of newly developed drugs.

Throughout my graduate work and postdoctoral experiences I focused on communicating science through writing. I also had many opportunities to learn grant writing skills from my mentors. Since completing my post-doctoral work, I have focused exclusively on grant writing and scientific consulting. See the Services page for more information on areas of expertise.
